The electrocardiogram is the simplest test, it records the electrical activity of the heart from different points in the body. Its realization requires the placement of electrodes in different places on the patient's chest and extremities.

It takes about 10 minutes. It is practiced by a nursing assistant. It does not present risks or produce discomfort in the patient.

It is a test that the cardiologist requests, generally, in patients with the possibility of heart disease, growth of the cavities, cardiac ischemia, old myocardial infarction, ventricular hypertrophy and to assess the heart rhythm.

The applications of this test for primary care are many, the main ones are:

  • As an initial cardiovascular evaluation, that can serve as a basis for the future and as a preoperative evaluation, indispensable for people over 40 years of age.
  • Study and development of ischemic heart disease (angina and myocardial infarction)
  • Identification and treatment of arrhythmia
  • Evolutionary control of the impact of hypertension and heart valve disease
  • Assessment of metabolic or electrolytic disorders
