Surgical or "Striping" saphenectomy of the internal or external saphenous vein refers to the procedure of mechanically removing insufficient diseased veins from the thigh and / or leg of both lower limbs. The procedure is indicated for patients who cannot receive the laser procedure, with fatty superficial venous insufficiency III and IV demonstrated by venous Doppler ultrasound.
It´s performed with regional anesthesia, spinal block or general anesthesia. The bandage is left for 10 days and recovery is approximately from 3 to 4 weeks. The complications are the same as any scheduled surgery.
