Presently we find different types of cardiac devices such as pacemakers, cardio-defibrilators and re-synchronizers. Pacemakers generate energy which is sent to the heart muscle to maintain the heart beats. Cardio-defibrilators perform the functions of the pacemaker and recognize arrhythmias tht may compromise the life of the patient by generating an electric impulse that stops the arrhythmia. Re-synchronizers perform the functions of the cardiodefibrilators and maximize the cardiac function by improving the symptoms of heart failure.
The periodic revision of the devices, called the Pacemaker Clinic, improves their operation and extends their useful life. In these clinics we can predict the life of the battery and program the precise date of the change, as necessary.
Availability of the Pacemaker Clinic
All patients with a cardiac device can be treated in these clinics, even if the device was placed in another country or in another hospital. It is imperative that the brand of the device be known to conduct the appropriate analysis. No special preparation is required, only an appointment.
To analyze the device an instrument will be placed on the skin above the battery. This does not cause any pain however when the reprogramming starts, the patient may feel some palpitations due to stimulus to the heart during the revision but in general, the procedure does not cause any discomforrt.
Depending on the type of device and its condition, a new appointment will be scheduled for another revision.
After the Study
If after this clinic, especially when the program is changed, the patient feels some discomfort he/she should call us and one of our doctors will be glad to help.
